We are back at preschool after last week's quarantine. You may be wondering just how many weeks we have missed...I have not posted our lesson plans for quite some time. Here's why:
(12 days to go)
But let us not dwell on past shortcomings..onto the letter N!
Circle Time:
"Good Morning Song"
"ABC Song"
Weather discussion
Review of days of the week
"Days of the Week" Song
Flag Salute
The Nicest Newt- Scholastic's Alphatales
Courtney had the children stand up and twist their bodies into the letter "N". They loved it!
Art:
We briefly studied Jackson Pollack today. With no disrespect to the artist, he is a relatively easy painter to emulate! You can go here to practice his style (although it is nowhere near as fun as actually painting).
First, our newest member, Stacie, read our personal current obsession, Olivia. Olivia goes to the museum on rainy days and looks at famous paintings.
She attempts to replicate a Pollock painting on her mother's wall..
Time out.
Then we all headed outside and Krista had the children use spoons to drip paint onto pieces of paper. She used seven or eight different colors. The little ones were a bit confused- a few of them started smearing the paint instead of just dripping, but we all had fun just the same!
Rhythm:
As we add more children, it gets more difficult to march, play instruments, and sing at the same time. Today I had the little ones march around Courtney's kitchen a few times chanting "One, Two...One, Two...". Then we practiced our rhythm while walking sideways, walking backwards, spinning in circles, and attempting to duckwalk.
Language:
We practiced Manners today. We quietly went back into the schoolroom and sat respectfully on our blankets/mats. I used my A Beka book to teach on basic manners- please, thank you, brother/sister kindness, respect at home and at church, etc. I had prepared a special "good manners" badge for each child beforehand, and everyone received their badge at the end of the lesson for a particular good manners skill.
Snack:
We got cookies today!
Math:
Laura prepared a very fun lesson for the kids this morning. First, she explained patterns. She had the kids use their bodies to tap out rhythm patterns, and then she passed out lengths of yarn and dozens of pre-cut colored plastic straw pieces. Each child chose a color pattern and then strung his or her yarn with pieces of straw. Even the littlest ones were able to work on fine motor skills, and everyone loved this lesson! Then, the children went back into the school room for the second part of the lesson- number sight recognition. Laura had taped giant numbers, 1-8 onto the schoolroom door. She gave each child a turn with a flyswatter. She would say a number and have the child give a big swat! right on top of the number. Needless to say, it was a big hit with the three-year-old set.
Bible
Our "N" verse is:
"No one can serve two masters." (Matt. 6:24)
Finally, Laura read the story of the Great Flood and Noah's obedience to God.
And the mommies were ready to go home to rest. : )
